The Something Blue Blouse
Inky watercolour blooms on the palest wash of blue. Sheer volume sleeves. Shirred cuffs. A high ruffled neck and a run of little covered buttons down the front.
It looks like an heirloom. It behaves like a shirt.
Wear it tucked into wide-leg denim and a pointed heel for the school run that ends at lunch. Untuck it over black pants when the invitation says "smart." Leave the top three buttons undone and let the sleeves do the talking.
Buttoned to the throat, it's Victorian. Three undone, it's a Saturday.
Both are correct.
Something old? Never.
Something new. This one.
